FAIRFIELD — Ponca’s playoff run was short-lived as the Indians were eliminated in a 72-6 loss Friday in the opening round of the Class D-1 playoffs at Sandy Creek.
The Cougars, last year’s runner-up, raced to a 38-0 lead after one period before Ponca put up its first score on the night on a 19-yard pass from Caden Cleveland to Cooper Stewart.
Sandy Creek scored two more touchdowns in the second period to put the running clock in play for the second half, then added another score to open the second half to put the game out of reach.
Ponca ends the season at 5-5.
