Adding to Masters’ mob

South Sioux has its first baby kangaroo

Being a “grandma” before you’re 30 years old seems an impossible idea.

But Angie Masters couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to see one of her “kids” bring a new life into the world.

Five years ago, the 28-year-old Masters got her first kangaroo and began the process of creating her own zoo near her South Sioux City home.

“Slim Shady here was my first kangaroo,” she said proudly, pointing to him as he rested behind a fence at the small fenced-in complex. “Eventually, he needed some friends, because kangaroos need to live in a group.”

And so the mob — a group of kangaroos — eventually expanded. With names like Connor McGregor, Betty White and Judge Judy, the one-kangaroo family has now become a gang of six.
And now, seven.

Late last year, one of the kangaroos had a little something extra in her pouch and Judge Judy eventually gave birth to a new marsupial.

While the new ‘roo is yet to be named, Masters is more than excited about seeing a new life in her kangaroo family.
