Lynette “Christine” Pitts, 70, of Wayne, died peacefully on Sept. 22, 2026, at Wakefield Healthcare Center with her family by her side. Her funeral service will be held at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, located at 1431 W. 29th Street, South Sioux City, Nebraska. Graveside services will follow the funeral.

Christine was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Nathan and Edith Pitts and grew up in South Sioux City. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who brought joy to the lives of those around her.

During her formative years, public school was not available to her. Instead, she attended Harriet Ballou New Hope Center in Sioux City, Iowa. As an adult, Christine became a client of a sheltered workshop, now known as Northstar Services, in South Sioux City, where she spent many years. Most recently, she continued her activities and friendships through Northstar in Wayne.

Christine was a gentle and loving person. She enjoyed being teased by her siblings and, just as much, teasing them right back. She could also be quite stubborn when things didn't go her way. Her family learned that sometimes the best approach was simply to wait her out until she decided it was time to cooperate.

Christine enjoyed visiting Sioux City's memorials, especially the Floyd Monument. She loved feeding the geese at Memorial Cemetery. She also enjoyed attending Sunday School and church services at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City with her family and especially loved listening to her mother read the Sunday comics. Bowling with the Special Olympics was another highlight for her.

Christine had a wonderful sense of independence. She was able to run small errands for her neighbors and took pride in learning to write her name, along with some numbers and letters. Chris loved receiving helium balloons anytime. Having her nails polished was important to her.
She loved the simple things that brought her happiness: her Etch A Sketch, Lite-Brite, drawing pictures, coloring, and watching Looney Tunes, The Three Stooges, and The Mod Squad. When she was younger, she loved riding her large, three-wheeled tricycle — so much so that she managed to wear out two of them!

Christine's life was filled with family, familiar places, favorite activities, laughter, and the people who cared for her. She will be remembered for her loving heart, strong personality, determination, and the many little moments that made her uniquely Christine.

Christine is survived by her brother-in-law, Joel Hutchins; sister, Susan Quinn (James); brothers, Craig Pitts (Barbara) and Gary Pitts (Vicki); and sisters, Theresa Saltsgiver and Dawna Nelson.

She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with many dear friends and the Northstar staff who provided her with exceptional care in Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Edith Pitts; nephew, Charles Pitts; brother, Neal Pitts; and sister, Judy Hutchins.
Memorials may be directed to Special Olympics or Northstar Services in Wayne, to support special client events.

In lieu of flowers, please consider bringing a helium balloon to the service.
