OMAHA -- South Sioux City senior Madelynn Bohnet and Tri County Northeast senior Kiya Tornez both made it to the semifinals during the first day of action in the State Girls Wrestling Championships at the CHI Center in Omaha.
Bohnet, who is looking to finish her career as a four-time finalist and three-time champion, recorded a pair of first-period falls to advance to Wednesday’s semifinals. She is 41-1 on the season and will face Beatrice sophomore Aubrey Johnson in the semis.
Tornez, who earned her first medal last year, is in the Class B 155-pound semis after two wins, including a 7-2 decision over Ivette Ozuna of Wayne and a quick fall over Ellie Scoville of SEM. The 34-2 senior faces Zeniah Baca of Adams Central in the semis.
