Two-car accident near Jackson results in deaths

Foggy conditions were to blame for a two-car accident near Jackson Friday that resulted in the deaths of two people.

According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred on Highway 20 about two miles west of Jackson at about 7:34 p.m. on Friday. A Nissan Maxima driven by David Podany, 68, of rural Allen collided with a GMC Sierra pickup driven by Christopher Wedmore, 26, of Lawton, Iowa. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the report, Podany’s vehicle was traveling westbound and Wedmore was eastbound when the vehicles collided. A 26-year-old female and a 3-year-old male child in the Wedmore vehicle were both injured and taken to a Sioux City hospital, where they were last reported in stable condition.

Rescue units from Dakota Covington Volunteer Rescue and Ponca and South Sioux City rescue units responded to the scene. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol in the investigation of the scene.
