Emerson Police Chief Chuck Chinn received a call to 700 Dakota Street on Monday afternoon after a woman woke up and her male partner was holding a gun against her head.

The incident took place inside their trailer at the Dakota Street address, which is the location of the Emerson Trailer Park. The man threatened to kill the woman, their 3-year-old daughter and himself.

The woman escaped the trailer home and called 911, to which Chief Chinn, Dixon and Dakota County Sheriiff's officers along with the Nebraska State Patrol responded, as did the Emerson Fire and Rescue units.

The man who had been armed with a .22 handgun willingly walked out of the residence and gave himself up to law enforcement after about 20 minutes.

Officers arrested Aaron Silvernail, 32, who has previous arrests. He has been charged with second-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, violent injury with a dangerous instrument, possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, disturbing the peace, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Dakota County Jail, where more charges may be added.

The woman stated Mr. Silvernail had threatened suicide previously, and officers suspect this isn't the first time the woman has been assaulted.

The family had only lived in Emerson three days. They came from Cleveland, Tenn. Chief Chinn stated the authorities will check with Tennessee authorities for further details.

The woman and child were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City for observation.
