State trooper assaulted during DUI arrest

A trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol suffered minor injuries after being attacked by a Winnebago man during an arrest in Dakota County.

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Troy Reynolds, 31, of Winnebago after he allgedly head-butted a trooper during a traffic stop Tuesday evening.

According to Cody Thomas, NSP public relations director, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper performed a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Traverse for defective lighting on Highway 77 just south of South Sioux City. During the stop, the trooper became suspicious that the driver was impaired. The trooper conducted a DUI investigation and determined that the driver was impaired.

As the trooper was taking the driver into custody, the driver headbutted the trooper in the face. Dakota County deputies then assisted in taking the driver into custody.

Reynolds was taken to Dakota County Jail for assault on an officer, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, driving with a revoked license, and other charges.

The trooper suffered minor injuries and was treated after transporting the suspect to jail.
