American Legion postseason baseball begins in two weeks, and two area communities will play host to area tournaments.
South Sioux City Post 307 will play host to the Class A, Area 6 Seniors tournament that will run July 17-21 at Voss Field in Klasey Park. They are one of three tournament sites outside the Omaha metropolitan area that will play as host teams, along with Lincoln in Area 5 and Grand Island in Area 7.
Class A, which has two divisions of state tournaments, will see their area winners play July 25-29 with the American Division at Elkhorn North and the National Division at Kearney. Area teams are automatically entered into the tournament to fill out the eight-team bracket.
The Ponca Post 117 Juniors will host their area tournament July 10-14 at the Ponca Sports Complex. They will be the Area 2 hosts, joining Crofton (Area 1), Malcolm (3), Hebron (4), Twin River (5), Ravenna (6) and Imperial (7) as host sites. Their state tournament will be July 18-22 at Plymouth Tri-County.
Several sites in northeast Nebraska will also host area or state tournaments, including Wayne (Class B state Juniors), Pender (Class C state Seniors) and Wakefield (Class C Area 2 Seniors).
