South Sioux City will have five entries in next week’s State Track and Field Championships after qualifying in district action Tuesday at Millard North High School.
Two SSC girls and three Cardinal boys earned trips to Omaha next week with top-four finishes in the A-3 district meet.
In girls action, senior Madelynn Bohnet won the pole vault with a winning leap of 10 feet, 4 inches. Thrower Graelee Groves also earned a trip to state, finishing fourth in the discus with a best toss of 104 feet.
In boys competition, the 3,200-meter relay team of Leandro Magana Magana, Melchisedek Munzambi, Yahir Mejia and Luke Mcginty finished third in a time of 8:23.86 to earn a spot in the state meet.
Individually, McGinty was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.35, and pole vaulter Angel Vargas Vazquez finished third with a height of 12 feet to make it to state.
Area athletes from Homer, Emerson-Hubbard (Tri County NE) and Ponca will compete in district action Thursday in Hartington.
