South Sioux City casino construction to start next summer

South Sioux City’s new casino is one step close to reality after an announcement last week by WarHorse Gaming regarding funding for construction projects at its three Nebraska properties.

In a news release sent to area media last week, WarHorse Gaming, LLC announced that it has secured refinancing of $300 million in startup loans to a favorable five-year deal that will launch the next phase of casino expansions at its facilities in Omaha and Lincoln, as well as construction of its third facility in South Sioux City, which is expected to start in the summer of 2026.

“This rapid refinancing shows our bank partners value what we’re doing, and see the great potential ahead,” said Lance Morgan, CEO of Ho-Chunk, Inc., the parent company of WarHorse Gaming. “We are proud to have them join us for this next big chapter.”

WarHorse Gaming has already seen some impressive numbers with the opening of its casinos in Omaha and Lincoln, with 2025 receipts of $94.8 million in total gaming revenue reported as of Aug. 25 to the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. Taxes on that revenue have totaled $22.5 million, with most of that money going for property tax relief under Nebraska law. WarHorse officials anticipate those numbers to double in 2026.

Construction on the new facility in South Sioux City, which is located just across the street from the recently-completed horse racing track in the southeast corner of town, is scheduled to start in the summer of 2026. The facility is expected to have 700 gaming positions, including slots, table games and simulcast racing, along with a Nebraska Ale Haus dining facility and live horse racing.
