A man with a Woodbury County warrant took South Sioux City Police and Dakota County Sheriff’s Office on a chase Thursday evening before being apprehended in the Stepping Stone Apartments complex.

According to South Sioux City Police Chief Steve Heide, the chase started outside of town when the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office received information that a male subject with an active Woodbury County (Iowa) warrant was entering Dakota County. The suspect, Tyrone Larush, was spotted by DCSO deputies in the area of F Avenue and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued.

The vehicle Larush was driving avoided a set of spike strips by driving through a ditch and continued into South Sioux City, where he stopped near the apartment complex and fled on foot, entering one of the apartment buildings and running up to the third floor where he broke through an apartment door.

Officers secured the building, but the suspect jumped out of a third-floor window of the apartment and fled on foot toward the area of West 26th Street and Fifth Avenue. He was found hiding under a cargo trailer and was told to remain in place as the K-9 unit moved into position, but he crawled out from under the trailer and ran back toward the apartment complex, where he was apprehended in the courtyard of the complex.

In addition to Woodbury County charges for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, Larush now faces charges here of no operator’s license, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, operating a motor vehicle to avoid felony arrest, obstructing a police officer and criminal mischief.
