South Sioux City firefighters responded to a shed fire Friday night in the 700 block of Eighth Street.
When they responded at around 9:49 p.m., a car port was on fire with multiple vehicles nearby. Firefighters worked to control the blaze and protected a nearby home to prevent further spreading of the fire. Several individual in the home were evacuated as a safety precaution and returned home once the fire was under control.
The cause of the fire was accidental in nature from performing welding work. Estimated damage was approximately $15,000 and the scene was declared clear about an hour later.
SSCFD firefighters were assisted by Sioux City and Dakota City fire departments, along with South Sioux City Police and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.
