South Sioux City Fire Department personnel worked with three other fire departments to contain an incident at the Ingredion facility Saturday afternoon.

The call came at approximately 2:55 p.m. as black smoke was visible from the roof of the building, located at 395 164th Street. SSCFD received mutual aid assistance from Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff and Dakota City fire departments in responding to the fire.

The fire traveled upward through a dryer vent toward the roof of the facility. The facility’s fire sprinkler system, combined with aggressive firefighting efforts, quickly contained and controlled the blaze, preventing further spread of the fire. All employees evacuated the building safely with no injuries reported among plant personnel or responding firefighters.

Crews remained on the scene for more than three hours to fully extinguish remaining hot spots and ensure the area was secure, according to SSC Fire Chief Doug Koopman. The fire was determined to be accidental, and an estimate of property damage and business impact had not been finalized.

The SSCFD extends its appreciation to its mutual aid partners and Ingredion personnel for their swift cooperation during the response.
