No injuries in early-morning fire

Occupants at a mobile home in South Sioux City were able to escape unharmed after an early-Monday morning fire.

South Sioux City Fire Department reported receiving a call just before 2 a.m. on Monday and were able to contain the fire in about an hour with mutual aid provide by Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff fire and rescue units. Wind speeds of up to 50 miles per hour and sub-zero wind chills created hazardous conditions for responders.

The occupants were at home at the time of the fire and were able to safely exit the structure. No injuries were reported. The structure sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss. The occupants are working with American Red Cross officials on assistance.

South Sioux City firefighters reminds residents to make sure smoke alarms are installed and in working order, and to have an escape plan in place, especially during extreme winter weather.
