Drivers in South Sioux City will soon see some new lighting at its two I-129 interchanges.

Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, June 1 on Interstate 129 (I-129) south of South Sioux City, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Watts Electric, of Waverly, is the prime contractor. Work includes removing existing high-mast lighting towers and installing a new lighting system at the I-129/US-75 and I-129/Dakota Avenue interchanges.

The project will be constructed under traffic with lane closures controlled by appropriate traffic control devices and practices. The project is expected to be completed in late fall 2026.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
