OMAHA — A repeat champion highlighted a three-medal effort for Star-area wrestlers at the 2025 Nebraska State Girls Wrestling Championships that concluded Wednesday.

Madleynn Bohnet won her second straight title with a first-period pin of Mara Vanderpool of Omaha Westside in the Class A 105-pound finals. She used her underhook to perfection and turned the Westside sophomore for a pin at the 1:12 mark of the match to back up last year’s all-class 105-pound title.

It was the third finals trip for the SSC junior, who finished the season 44-0 and will be a favorite to earn a third title next season.

Caitlyn Sohm’s hopes for a second straight title came up short in the Class A 235-pound title match against Audre Herron of Omaha Westview. Herron had a slight height advantage and was able to counter Sohm’s throwing attack, ultimately getting a pin at the 5:06 mark of the match to claim the title.

Sohm finished her career as a three-time medalist and two-time finalist, battling through knee injuries to complete a 31-7 season.

Kiya Tornez of Tri County Northeast made school history by becoming the first Wolfpack wrestler to earn a medal.

After losing in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, the Wolfpack junior won two matches to reach the consolation semifinals. She lost her final two matches but came away with the sixth-place medal in Class B 145-pound competition.

As a team, South Sioux City tied for ninth in Class A with 64 points. Norfolk (142) claimed the Class A title with Omaha Westside (116.5) as runner-up. Yutan (130) won the Class B title with Columbus Lakeview (97) taking home the runner-up trophy.
