After suffering a pair of shutouts to start the season, the South Sioux City girls soccer team put a mark on the board and in the win column Thursday.
Helen Nicholas-Trochez put a shot toward goal that bounced past the Sioux City West goalkeeper and rolled into the net with about 15 minutes left to give the Lady Cards the 1-0 win over the Lady Wolverines in action at the Cardinal Athletic Complex.
Both teams were winless and scoreless coming into Thursday’s game and neither team could find the net in the first half, but South Sioux City’s offense pressed the issue in the second half and Nicholas-Trochez found the goal for the game’s lone goal.
Athziry Mojica-Garcia kept a clean scoresheet for the 1-2 Lady Cardinals, who play in the Norfolk Invitational on Saturday.
