WAUSA — Homer’s girls cross country team has been more like the walking wounded this season, but showed that they have plenty of depth to keep their place at the top of the Lewis & Clark Conference mountain.

The Lady Knights have lost their top three runners to season-ending injuries, yet had enough depth to place all four of its scoring runners in the top 11 to defend the title Friday afternoon at Rolling Hills Golf Club.

Hadley Heikes and Okie Bolles both finished in the top five, placing third and fifth respectively, and Tawny Bolles placed sixth to lead the charge. Brooklyn Hightree’s 11th place finish rounded out the scoring as Homer finished 22 points ahead of runner-up Tri County Northeast.

The Lady Wolfpack had three of its four scoring runners finish in the top 15, led by a fourth-place finish from Alejandra Hermosillo. Rachael Bousquet finished eighth and Chloe Peters was 14th.

In boys action, Homer had three of its four scoring runners finish in the top eight and placed eight points behind champion Bloomfield/Wausa.

Aayden Harris (4th), Caden Barclay (6th) and Jett Fogerty (8th) led the charge for the Kngihts while Logan Albrecht placed 12th to round out the team coring.

Tri County Northeast was third in boys competition, led by Jude Ridenour’s ninth-place finish. Alex Snyder was 18th, Tucker Anderson was 24th and Matt Bousquet rounded out the scoring by placing 40th.
