The Homer girls basketball team overcame a slow start and used a 24-0 second-half run to turn a close game into a rout, beating Bloomfield 65-44 to win the Lewis & Clark Conference title Monday at Wayne State College’s Rice Auitorium.
The Queen Bees got off to a 12-3 lead early before Homer rebounded to cut the deficit to 20-18 after one period.
Homer kept the momentum going and took a 30-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The game was close through much of the third quarter with Bloomfield trailing 38-34, and at that point the Lady Knights turned up the defensive pressure and used a 14-0 run to end the third and turn a four-point lead into an 18-point cushion.
Homer’s pressure continued to frustrate4 the young Queen Bees and it was 62-34 with 6:03 to go before Bloomfield scored again. The game was never a contest after that.
Homer (20-1) had four players in double figures, led by Ali Albrecht’s 13 points. Tori Walker and Janessa Overgaard each had 12 points and Lilly Harris put in 10.
The two teams meet again on Friday to close out the regular season at Bloomfield.
