Tony Gomez, an entrepreneur who came to the Dakota County area as an immigrant in 1970 and built Gomez Pallet with an idea started in his garage, was honored during the 39th annual Siouxland Chamber of Commerce dinner at the Sioux City Convention Center.

Gomez was presented with the W. Edwards Deming Business Leadership and Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for his many years of service to the Siouxland region. The award was presented to him by Chris McGowan, president of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce.

Gomez, who came to the region and worked at IBP in Dakota City, has been a part of the business community since he started working from his garage rebuilding pallets in 1983.

Gomez was the first Hispanic elected to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners in 2008, where he served for 12 years. He has also been involved in service with Northeast Community College, Briar Cliff University, and his church.
