Five punch tickets to state wrestling

Five area wrestlers qualified for next week's state tournament after finishing in the top four of their respective brackets during district action Saturday.

At Lincoln North Star, the South Sioux City boys earned two bids to state out of the A-3 district meet. Bodey Bligh finished fourth at 165 pounds and Adrien Curiel was a third-place finisher in the 215-pound weight bracket to represent the Cardinals at state.

Tri County Northeast also qualified a pair of wrestlers out of the D-1 district at Oakland-Craig. Landon Newton earned runner-up honors at 126 pounds, while Nate Franzluebbers finished third at 285 pounds.

Homer will send one wrestler to state next week. Austin Pelster was the district champion at 157 pounds in D-2 distirct competition at Shelby and will be the Knights' lone representative at state.
