The South Sioux City Fire Department answered a fire call late Monday morning near the intersection of West Seventh Street and Fifth Avenue.
With mutual aid from Sioux City Fire and Rescue and the Dakota City Fire Department, firefighters responded within two minutes to find a detached two-car garage fully engulfed in flames. They used an aggressive offensive fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control within about 10 minutes, according to SSCFD Chief Doug Koopman.
An investigation determined that the fire was accidental in nature, believed to have originated from a propane cooker that may have been unintentionally left on. No injuries were reported, and the garage sustained significant damage estimated at $25,000, including structural loss and contents.
