The Dakota County Star was recognized with five awards Saturday during the Better Newspaper Contest award banquet at the annual Nebraska Press Association convention in Kearney.
The Star received two first-place awards -- one for a feature story on South Sioux City's three state champions at the 2024 State Wrestling Championships, and the second for an editiorial on child sexual assault by publisher Michael Carnes.
Carnes also won three sports awards, including seconds for sports column and sports game coverage and a third for sports page.
