The City of South Sioux City has been awarded $610,592 through the 2025 Nebraska Department of Economic Development (NDED) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Works Program to support critical water and sewer infrastructure upgrades.

The project will replace and upgrade aging utilities along West 13th Street between 5th Avenue and 3rd Avenue, where the existing 4-inch transite water line has been identified as deteriorating, undersized, and at risk of failure. City utility inspections and engineering studies confirmed the need for replacement to ensure continued safe and reliable service.

The improvements will bring the system up to current standards, increase reliability, and enhance service for residents in the surrounding neighborhoods. This project will significantly strengthen the safety and dependability of the city’s water system.

Construction is anticipated to move forward following required environmental and administrative steps.
