Longtime South Sioux City Police lieutenant Steve Heide was named the new Chief of Police during Monday's City Council meeting.
Heide, who has been part of the SSCPD since 1992, replaces Ed Mahon, who resigned as police chief earlier this month. He was selected from a list of four finalists who were interviewed by the Civil Service Commission and presented to the Council for final approval by Mayor Rod Koch.
