(NOTE: Story is updated with information on a work release request.)
A Dakota County Commissioner will be spending a week in the Dakota County Jail after being sentenced Monday in Dakota County Court.
Rick Bousquet, 68, showed up for sentencing Monday afternoon in a suit and tie and accepted Judge Sara Bauer’s sentence of a seven-day jail sentence for a Jan. 5 incident where he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test, driving left of center and failure to use a turn signal.
Bousquet was arrested a second time less than two weeks later when he was observed driving a motor vehicle after attending his first meeting as a Dakota County Commissioner. He was arrested by South Sioux City police and charged with driving during revocation, obstructing governmental operations and driving without a driver’s license. Those charges were later dismissed and he pled guilty to an amended version of the charges last month.
Bousquet, will receive one day of credit toward the seven-day sentence, which he began serving Monday evening. He also was ordered to pay $600 in fines and $109 in court costs and had his driver’s license revoked for six months.
His request for work release was granted by County Sheriff Chris Kleinberg.
