Lady Cards start softball season 1-3

After losing their home opener on Thursday, the South Sioux City softball team posted a 1-2 finish in the Lincoln Public Schools Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Cards opened the season Thursday with a 12-2 loss to Omaha Mercy.

The visitors scored first in the opening frame, but SSC quickly tied the score thanks to a steal of home by Izzie Tranmer after a dropped third strike.

Mercy took control of the game with four runs in the third inning and scored six more in the fourth.

Cheyane Torticil had an RBI and Tranmer and Keyanna Weaver both had hits to lead the offense. Tranmer stole two bases in the game. Khenzie Rager took the pitching loss.

SSC opened play Saturday with a 12-2 loss to Freeman, as the Falcons took control early with two in the first and five more in the second.
Tranmer, Rager and Laela Montes each had hits in the losing effort, with Rager and Paizley Aldrich both driving in a run.

SSC out-hit Raymond Central 7-6, but came away on the short end of a high-scoring 11-8 affair in the second game of the day.

SSC scored six runs on three hits in the second inning to take a 6-4 lead, highlighted by a two-run single by Torticil.

Raymond Central responded with seven in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Torticil was 2-for-3 with two RBI’s in the losing effort while Tranmer had two stolen bases.

The Lady Cards ended the day on a good note, blowing out Falls City 18-3 with the help of a 16-run second inning that saw the Lady Cards bat twice through the lineup.

SSC had a season-high 17 hits in the win, with Tranmer and Paisyn Ross each recording three hits. Tranmer, Torticil, Keyanna Weaver and Montes had two hits apiece. Ross got the win for her first career varsity victory.
