Jannette “Jan” Burns, 92

Jannette “Jan” Burns, 92 of South Sioux City passed away on Sept. 9, 2024, at Regency Square Care Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Sandra Braasch officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jan was born on Jan. 12, 1932, in Whiting Iowa, the daughter of Doyle Otis Sisson and Gladys Olive (Davis) Sisson.

Jan and Avery (A.J.) Burns were united in marriage at Salem Lutheran Church on Sept. 22, 1985.

Jan was a very resourceful person, she loved sewing, crocheting and knitting along with other crafts. She was a member of the Hanson Greenleaf American Legion Auxiliary Unit 376 and a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church. She volunteered many hours at the Norfolk Veterans Home. Jan spent many years on the Friends of the Library in Dakota City and was a substitute librarian when needed. As a busy mom, Jan was very proud when she received Beautician License. She enjoyed fixing people’s hair.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband A.J.Burns, son Thomas Reiling, brothers Kenneth Sisson, Gayle (Audrey) Sisson, sisters Audrey (Wayne) Meier, and Cleta Sisson.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Kathryn (Marvin) Downing, Jacalyn Barnes, Georgette (Stephen) Gonshorowski, along with eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and many other relatives.
