Harris, Homer boys take firsts

HARTINGTON — The Homer boys ran away with team honors in their season-opening meet Thursday morning at the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational, while Lady Knight sophomore Lilly Harris claimed individual honors.

All four Knight runners placed in the top 10 for the Homer boys as they easily defeated host Hartington-Newcastle 18-44 in the race for the team title.

Caden Barclay paced the Knights with a fourth-place time of 19:11.20, followed by Triston Owens (6th, 19:44.37), Aayden Harris (7th, 19:53.15) and Junius Snowball (8th, 19:58.89).

Jessup Snowball and Dawson Kollars rounded out the Homer team effort with finishes of 17th and 27th, respectively.

In girls action, Harris came away with the first-place finish over the 5,000-meter course with her winning time of 21:06.31. She was joined on the medal stand by Lilyanna Diurawiec, who finished 12th in 24:25.58.

Rounding out Homer’s effort in the girls race were Natali Cardasis in 19th, Jaedyn Bousquet in 24th, Lila Bolles in 28th and Tawny Bolles in 32nd.

Ponca had a great day individually at Thursday morning’s race, as four of their six runners finished the day on the medal stand.

In girls action, Ava Brennan was third and freshman Laken Pfister took ninth, with Addyson Chytka coming home in 20th place.

On the boys side, Gannon Pfister was the runner-up and Broderick Hogan as fifth, while Zyan Contrad finished 28th.
